Come out to an event to see what’s happening in the club.
Since moving to the Meetup group for event organization, we have not been updating this site much. It is maintained mostly for those seeking us through a web search. Please join us on Meetup for event information.

Spring 2012 Update
March 15, 2012

It will be apparent to anyone who frequents this website, that we have not been updating the news section very often. Since moving to the Meetup group or event scheduling and notifications, this website has become less of a priority. We do feel though, the website still manages to attract a few people into the club, or at least help provide contact information for prospective members.

If anyone has anything they would like to share with other members here in the news section, by all means feel free to contact us and we’ll see about posting it. Remember though, this page and the rest of our website are public. Event information will be posted on our Meetup group.

We have seen nice turnouts for our recent First Friday Pub Nights, and hope this continues. If there are other events or interests you’d like to see, please share your ideas with members of the executive, or better yet offer to host! The Tall Club of Toronto is only as good as it’s members want to make it.

Please join our Meetup group for the latest event information. There is a link on our home page.

October Update
October 8, 2010

Election Party Announced – Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 7:00pm

No, we are not celebrating the municipal elections, but if that will get you to come out, by all means do so.

The Tall Club of Toronto is run by members who volunteer their time to take care of the business end of the club. Once a year we hold an election to fill the positions available. We currently have people in the following positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Social, Publicity along with appointed positions of Webmaster and Sunshine person.

If you have an interest in taking a more active roll in the operation of the club, please come out and consider running for a position. Even if not elected to an official position, consider helping out in other ways. Many jobs can be done by committee or volunteering to help any of the elected positions. Remember, the club is only as good as its members make it.

The election will be only a small part of the evening. The rest will be a good time to socialize with other members of the Tall Club of Toronto.

Details of the location and time will be posted asap.

April Update
April 16, 2010

It has been a while since we’ve had a club update.  There are a few things we would like to pass on to members and prospects.

Meetup.com

As most should be aware by now, the Tall Club of Toronto is using Meetup.com in addition to our own website.  We cannot match the features Meetup offers, so it will be used for our calendar organizer and event notifications.  If you haven’t already done so, please join our Meetup group.  The link can be found through our website www.tallclub.com or directly at http://www.meetup.com/Tall-Club-of-Toronto

At present, the Meetup calendar is visible to all, however in the near future we will be changing the settings to private and only those who have joined our Meetup group will be able to view the calendar events.  From time to time we will also purge the member list of those not showing any interest in our events.  This is much the same as we used to do with our paper newsletter, and prospects would be given 4 months of events to check out and join if interested.

Social Coordinator

We are looking for someone to step into the role of Social Coordinator.  In the past, Social has been handled by a committee of members, and we would like to see this happen again. In addition to a Social Coordinator, we are looking for members who would be interested in helping organize the calendar and encouraging other members to host events.

Events

As members, we all should be willing to host an event or two. It isn’t difficult.  It can be as simple as making a restaurant reservation, announcing a movie night, or hike, or doing something else you would like to do as a group.   Remember, we are all volunteers.  The Tall Club of Toronto is only as good as its members want it to be.  Thank you, to all who have hosted events in the past months.

Below are some upcoming events.  Hope to see everyone out at an event soon.

Website update and other news
February 6, 2010
This update has been a long time in coming, I’m sorry for that.  We’ve had a lot of issues to deal with behind the scenes in an effort to get the club back on track.  Some unforeseeable obstacles proved to be time consuming, but I think we have managed to overcome them and move forward.

Wilf and I have been working on the website and finally have an updated look. The information is mostly the same as it was, but with a brand new format.  If anyone has any ideas of ways to further update, improve or make additions to it, please let us know.

Besides our website, we are reaching paid and prospective members in a number of ways.  We have and continue to build our email list.  We currently email well over 400 people each time we send an event reminder.  We also have our Forum, a Facebook group, a Yahoo Group, and now are on Meetup.com as well.  We copy the event information to each of these.  These links can be found on our Home page or Community sections. Eventually we hope to cut these down to those methods which work best for our members.  Again, if anyone has any suggestions about improving, adding or changing the way we communicate, please let us know.

We would like to find a way of integrating an events calendar; however that would require members to log in to a secure page/area.  Overwhelmingly I have heard that most do not want to have to log in, and much prefer to receive email reminders.  From our perspectve, emailing is very time consuming, and we would really like to find a way to eliminate a lot of it.  Meetup.com has a good calendar and also sends event reminders.  Using Meetup might be a good way for us to be able to simplify our process and get reminders out as well. It would require members to join Meetup though.

Our forum area could be a real benefit, as members could communicate within the website.  We could post our events there and have member only areas.  Many clubs and organizations rely on forums for their communications.  Again though, it requires that members register and log in to use it.

We want the website to be user friendly and appealing for our members and prospects.  We need to find ways of making the communication process easier and less time consuming.  Remember, no one in the Tall Club of Toronto makes money from the club.  All executive members are volunteers and give their time to make the club work.

Remember too, the Tall Club of Toronto relies on its members to host events.  The club really is only as good as the members want it to be.  If you have an event idea, please provide us the information and we will gladly send it out.

I should also mention, we have added Paypal as a method of payment for membership.  Find the information on the Join Us page.

For the first time, on Friday February 5th the two Toronto tall clubs held an event together.  The First Friday Pub Night held at Chalkers was a great success with 27 people attending.  Thank you to all of the Tall Club of Toronto members who came out to support the event.

If you haven’t been out to an event for a while, or have never attended, please consider coming out soon.

Tall Regards,

John M
President
Tall Club of Toronto

Message from TCI President, Megan Lukens
August 9, 2009
Hello Tall Ones,

What a treat I have for you today! Some of you may remember Neil Marko, who was a member of the Detroit Tip Toppers for quite a few years. It seems that he was going through some old video tapes recently, and ran across an interview he did with our founder, Kae Sumner Einfeldt, 21 years ago this month. It was made during our Golden Anniversary at the 1988 TCI Convention in Los Angeles. (I was lucky enough to be there!) Now, Neil has uploaded his video to YouTube for us all to enjoy. So grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy a wonderful visit with Kae.

TALLest regards!

NEW EXECUTIVE FOR 2009-2010

TALL CLUB OF TORONTO ELECTIONS

The Tall Club of Toronto held an election on Saturday June 27, 2009.  It is regrettable that there was not more advance notification, however there was a fairly good turnout in spite of that. Nominations came from the floor and made for a real election for most positions. The results were as follows:

President            John M
Vice President  Carolyn D
Treasurer           Charles V
Social                   Debra R
Membership     Greg A
Publicity             Norma F
Secretary            Lynn N

As well, Wilf K was appointed to the website admin position.

We are starting the new executive with positive energy, and a lot of enthusiasm. The elected members seem genuinely interested in rebuilding the club to the fun social club it once was. The key to the club’s success though, rests with all members, not just the elected executive.

The Tall Club of Toronto is and always has been driven by the members.  It is up to each and every member to participate and even host events if the club is to survive and thrive.

We have some work to do on the website, on methods of communication with members and other areas, and will move forward as quickly as possible.  If anyone has any thoughts or concerns, or event ideas, you can email

me directly.

We will be trying to get the website updated as soon as possible. We do however, have a Yahoo Group set up that we can use in the mean time. It will distribute email to everyone registered to it. We can use it for planning events, RSVPing or communicating with other members in a public forum.  Please join, either by visiting the above “Yahoo Groups” link, or by visiting this link: http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/TallClubofToronto

I look forward to working with the new executive and hope to see everyone enjoying events in the very near future.

Tall Regards,

John M
President
Tall Club of Toronto
